Fall-ifying Your Hair Bag: 5 Things Worth Adding This Season
The Central Valley doesn't really do a dramatic fall, but your hair still feels it. The air dries out, static shows up out of nowhere, and the routine that worked all summer suddenly needs a few adjustments. Here's what's earning a permanent spot in my bag this season, and why.
1. A dry shampoo that's actually weightless. Between-wash days matter more once the weather cools down and you're washing less often. If you're wearing extensions, look for a formula that's alcohol-light and won't build up near the bonds. A few seconds at the root and you're good for another day.
2. A satin or silk pillowcase (or bonnet, if that's more your speed). Cooler nights mean drier air indoors, and cotton pillowcases pull moisture right out of your hair while you sleep. Satin lets hair glide instead of catching, which means less frizz and fewer tangles by morning, extensions or not.
3. A leave-in serum built for static, not just shine. This is the one people underestimate. The second the humidity drops, flyaways show up, especially around the crown. A lightweight leave-in smooths the cuticle down without weighing anything down, which matters if you're already working with extensions or fine hair.
4. A wide-tooth comb or extension-safe brush. This one's non-negotiable if you're wearing NBR extensions. Static season is tangle season, and the wrong brush near a bond can do real damage. Start detangling at the ends and work your way up, always.
5. A no-heat curling method. Fall is the season for effortless waves, not another appointment with your flat iron. A satin ribbon or a set of heatless rods overnight gives you movement without the damage, and it's the easiest thing to build into a weekend routine when you're headed to a pumpkin patch or a coffee run and don't want to think about your hair at all.
None of this is complicated, it's just seasonal. If your extensions haven't had a check since summer, that's usually the real culprit behind a rough patch this time of year.
